Groundbreaking Opioid Addiction Treatment Program Arrives in Maine

Aware Recovery Care, an innovative and promising drug and alcohol addiction treatment program created in concert with addiction specialists at Yale University, has opened its doors in Maine.

The program is unique in the nation.

Aware Recovery Care’s unique and innovative in-home addiction treatment program was founded on the research-supported idea that recovery in the “real world” leads to far better rehabilitation results.   In fact, extensive research has shown that receiving medical care and monitored support in the home promotes faster recovery, improves outcomes, and increases the patient’s overall physical and psychological well-being.

Research in New England reveals that 87 percent of patients admitted to detox units have previous admissions; over half have been there more than five times.[1]  Similar data exists for long-term residential programs where 75 percent of patients have been there multiple times.  Recent studies by leaders in addiction medicine show that those who can maintain abstinence from alcohol and drugs for a full year gain a much better chance of achieving sustained recovery.[2]

Aware Recovery Care is an in-network provider for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine.

“Our collaboration with Aware Recovery Care has been driven by a shared spirit of innovation to meet the challenges of the opioid crisis and expand the network of substance use disorder providers in the state,” said Dr. Jeffrey Holmstrom, medical director of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine. “Anthem consumers will be eligible to receive in-network benefits under Aware’s addiction treatment programs as they expand in Maine. These programs provide new, evidence-based treatment options for our consumers, delivered in the home setting, where they are likely to be of the most benefit.”

The Aware Recovery Care multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team for each client is led by a psychiatrist and supported by an addiction nurse, a licensed marriage and family therapist, an individual therapist, and two certified recovery advisors (CRA). These care-teams are being dispatched in Augusta, Maine and all parts south to the New Hampshire border to deliver advanced addiction rehab services in the home.

Aware Recovery Care’s Maine office is located in South Portland, Maine.  A full spectrum of drug and alcohol addiction rehab services will be provided in the service area.  To learn more, visit www.awarerecoverycare.com or call 844.292.7372.

Of the 215,000 days patients spent annually in detox, half were accounted for by patients with five or more previous stays.
